Fair Hills offers opportunities to gain practical and hands-on experience in multiple divisions of multiple industries; mainly Hospitality, Business and Golf.
The housekeeping department is responsible for cleaning and maintaining our 109 cabins. They offer midweek housekeeping service to our week-long stays and clean the cabins thoroughly between guests. They also keep the outdoor cabin spaces clean and looking great and maintain our inventory of bedding, additional cabin rentals and cleaning supplies. Our housekeeping department also helps out in the kitchen in the evening and takes care of all the laundry in-house.
Our housekeeping interns will learn how to manage people, schedules, inventory and high standards of cleanliness, care and service. Fair Hills Resort internships are hands-on and provide the experience to both learn and do at the same time. These are operational internships; interns work their department’s positions, as well as take on extra management responsibilities. This means, we work, not just delegate. The intern will work with our housekeeping managers to run the department as well as perform the general cleaning duties. It is our belief that it is crucial for any excellent future manager in the Hospitality Industry to have a good understanding and knowledge base of the housekeeping department.

This internship will focus on running, organizing and supervising the housekeeping department and is geared toward a college student who is pursuing a degree in Hospitality & Tourism Management with the goal to one day run a resort or hotel. This internship will emphasize the following skills: efficiently using a Property Management System, staff supervision, and guest relations. As with all positions at Fair Hills, there are opportunities to assist in other departments and cross-train to broaden your understanding and knowledge of the business as a whole.
The Lobby is the central hub for all happenings at the resort; check-ins/outs, billing, recreation, sign-ups, guest requests, soda fountain, gift shop, inquiries, etc. Our Front Desk interns learn how to manage a team, work on a team, provide excellent customer service, run and interpret reports, analyze data to make decisions and overall serve our guests. Fair Hills Resort internships are hands-on and interns have daily opportunities to interact with guests as well as key business operations. These are operational internships; interns work their department’s positions, as well as take on extra management responsibilities. This means, we work, not just delegate.

This internship is geared toward a college student who is pursuing a degree in Hospitality & Tourism Management or Business Management. Front desk interns must have good interpersonal communication skills, a positive personality, and be quick to learn information important for guests and staff. There are also opportunities at the front desk to work with department heads and create specialized projects. For example; Human Resources, Events, Big Pelican Cruises, Reservations, Inventory, Scheduling, Bar & Beverages, etc.
We at Fair Hills have found that a family sharing a good meal together is a prime ingredient for a happier vacation. The Fair Hills kitchen is well-known for excellent meals for our family vacations and events. Our kitchen feeds anywhere from 2-250 people daily. The culinary team does more than just cook, they create the thing that brings our people together to create memories.
This internship is geared toward someone with passion for the food & beverage industry and interested in cooking as well as gaining back-of-house management experience. During peak family vacation season, the kitchen provides anywhere from 200-250 meals three times a day. The kitchen is set-up catering/cafeteria style rather than short-order.

This intern also works closely with the front-of-house team to make sure all services run smoothly. As with all positions at Fair Hills, there are opportunities to assist in other departments and cross-train to broaden your understanding and knowledge of the business as a whole. The internship will provide emphasis on the following skills: organization, multi-tasking, basic & advanced culinary skills and efficiently running /organizing a full kitchen & staff.
One of the main experiences that sets Fair Hills apart from its competitors is our meal service. At least one meal is provided in every stay at the resort. Most of our guests enjoy 3 meals daily in our dining room. Our Food & Beverage team oversees all meal services and has the ability to really impact our guests and their vacation experience.
This internship is geared toward a college student pursuing a degree in Hospitality & Tourism Management. The interns will work directly with our Dining Room Manager who oversees our kitchen services, dining room, and events that include food & beverage. Fair Hills Resort internships are hands-on and provide the experience to both learn and do at the same time. These are operational internships; interns work their department’s positions, as well as take on extra management responsibilities. This means, we work, not just delegate.

As food & beverage is a part of almost all guest stays, this team is involved in and has exposure to all types of business; vacations, weddings, corporate events, tournaments, public activities, guest activities, etc. As with all positions at Fair Hills, there are opportunities to assist in other departments and cross-train to broaden your understanding and knowledge of the business as a whole. This internship will provide an emphasis on the following skills: organization, promoting a positive work atmosphere in a fast-paced environment, ability to multitask, guest services, managing people and daily operations.
Fair Hills hosts over 50 events each season; Weddings, Reunions, Meetings, Parties, Catering, Retreats, etc. As a full service event venue, we provide the space, set-up, audio/visual equipment, food & beverage, lodging, service and planning service. This internship will focus on the planning and execution of all events hosted at Fair Hills Resort, Wildflower Golf Course, and Five Lakes Resort and is geared toward a college student who is pursuing a degree in Hospitality & Tourism Management, Communications, or Public Relations. The intern will work directly with our Event Director. Both office work and event execution duties are required. The goal of the internship is to enable you to be able to run an event from start (booking) to finish (billing & follow-up) and everything in between, on your own.

The intern will learn to use our property management system, Resort Data Processing (RDP), as well as our point-of-sale system, Lightspeed. This internship works very closely with the front desk and front office, often sharing duties and assisting there as needed. These are operational internships; interns work their department’s positions, as well as take on extra management responsibilities. This means, we work, not just delegate. Intern will be asked to help other departments by filling in shifts at the front desk and dining room. This internship will provide emphasis on the following skills: organizing detailed events, building business relationships, and executing multi-departmental occasions.
Fair Hills is an all-inclusive resort, providing daily recreation activities for guests of all ages. The activities we facilitate and the relationships we build keep our guests coming back year after year. Our recreation staff is often considered the face of the resort and fully represents our passion and service to our guests.
This internship position is geared toward a college student pursuing a degree in recreation, physical education, or Pre-K-12 general education, and is designed to provide an immersive recreation-leader experience with children in three age groups: 4–8-year-olds, 8-14-year-olds, and 14-19-year-olds. This position also includes planning and leading family-oriented activities as well as staff activities and team building.
Recreation interns work directly with children and youth and are responsible for daily programming and activity leadership of activities such as arts and crafts, sports, music, dramatics, and games. Each recreation intern works in partnership with another, to plan, organize, and lead multiple age-appropriate activities each day and family-oriented activities each evening. Recreation interns are responsible for providing instruction and supervision to children and youth, adapting activities as needed, ensuring that recreation facilities and equipment are used and maintained properly, enforcing safety rules to prevent injury, and administering basic first aid if needed.
This internship will provide emphasis on the following skills: organizing detailed events; giving clear instruction; motivating participants; maintaining order and safety; communicating with both small and large groups, children and their parents, as well as a partner intern, the recreation team, and recreation director.
A Fair Hills Recreation Intern must be flexible and able to adapt plans on the fly in the event of changing environmental conditions and schedules. They should be physically fit, as the job may require a considerable amount of movement. They should be comfortable leading activities for people of all ages and be willing to step-in and step-up when needed.
Wildflower Golf Course is a Par 72, 18-hole Prairie Links style course, uniquely designed for Minnesota. A challenging and rewarding course for all skill levels, Wildflower is a destination for many golfers. The Golf Course Management Internship focuses on Pro Shop Management and Golf Operations. This internship is geared toward a college student pursuing a degree in Golf Enterprise Management or Sports Management. The intern will learn to use our point-of-sale system and tee sheet software, Lightspeed. This intern’s responsibilities include staff supervision while acting as manager on duty, completing front desk and outside services tasks. Interns work collaboratively with all departments at the golf course, sharing tasks and gaining a better understanding of the course flow and golfers.

The intern will also assist with facilitating four tournaments hosted by Wildflower and private corporate tournaments and events. Finally, the intern will assist in merchandising the pro-shop which includes running promotions, weekly inventory and meeting sales goals. There are also awesome opportunities to teach private golf lessons, work on programming for junior golf camps, and network with local business professionals. This internship will provide an emphasis on the following skills: organizing & running tournaments, building guest relations and supervising staff. Interns must have good interpersonal communication skills, a positive attitude, willingness to be flexible across departments, and be quick to learn about the course, the golfers, and intern tasks.
Wildflower Golf Course is a Par 72, 18-hole Prairie Links style course, uniquely designed for Minnesota. A challenging and rewarding course for all skill levels, Wildflower is a destination for many golfers. In addition to the 18 holes, there is also a Par 3 Executive Course at the resort and a driving range at Wildflower. This internship will focus on maintaining the grounds of 27+ holes of golf and is geared toward a college student who is pursuing a degree in Horticulture, Turf Grass Sciences or Golf Enterprise Management.

The student will report directly to the Superintendent of the courses. Intern will gain knowledge of the golf course industry and work within a team that is dedicated to course playability and aesthetics each and every day. Wildflower internships provide a hands-on opportunity to both learn and do. This internship will provide an emphasis on the following skills: creating schedules and renovation plans, disease identification & management and general grounds maintenance, repair and management.
