Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is provided in the cabins?

    Our cabins provide the basics. They have bedrooms and bathrooms. They do not have microwaves, televisions or phones. All cabins can lock from the inside. Most cabins have a table with a few chairs, but no sitting/gathering/living room. Cabins do not have hair dryers, irons or ironing boards.  We provide all your bedroom linens and bathroom towels.  Each cabin has dressers, end tables, closets, hangers and a mini-fridge.  You will need to bring your own toiletries, like shampoo and conditioner, and beach towels, as well as your other personal items.

    Our cabins do not have AC standard in the cabin, though they all do have baseboard heat.  You may rent a portable AC unit for any cabin for an additional fee.

  • Can I book online?

    Yes!  We do offer online booking options.  However, our lodging options are each so unique, it is often best to make reservations with us over the phone.  Either way, we will collect all the important details to make sure your reservation is perfectly set-up.

  • Are there rooms in the lodge?

    No, there are no guest rooms in the lodge. Our lodge houses our front desk, soda fountain, gift shop, pavilion, library, rec room, the Perch, and several other meeting rooms.

  • Are the cabins air conditioned?

    No, our cabins are not air conditioned. All cabins have ceiling fans and/or box fans in each bedroom. The lake usually provides a cooling breeze at night. You may rent a portable AC unit for any cabin for an additional fee.

  • What time is check-in & check-out?

    Check-in time is 4 pm. Check-out time is 10 am. Guests booked in a wedding block have a check-in time of 1 pm.

  • Does Fair Hills provide cribs?

    Yes, we have pack-n-plays available at no additional fee.

  • Does Fair Hills have laundry facilities?

    Yes, we have guest laundry facilities. We have 6 washers and 6 dryers. Washers are $.75 per load and dryers are $.75 per load. Detergent is available for sale in the lobby.

  • Is alcohol included in the All Inclusive Packages?

    No, we do not include any alcohol in the all inclusive packages.  All guests are welcome to bring their own alcoholic (and non) beverages and enjoy in their cabin.  We offer a full cash bar in the dining room during dinner, you can charge beverages from that menu to your cabin.  We also offer the Perch Lounge with a full beer, wine, cocktail and kiddie cocktail menu. 

  • Are there handicap accessible cabins?

    Yes, we do have handicap accessible cabins and cabins with handicap accessible bathrooms. Our dining hall and lobby are also handicap accessible.

  • Can cabins be rented short term or only for week long stays?

    Most of our guests stay for week long stays but we do rent our cabins short term as well. During vacation weeks in the middle of the summer, we have a 2-night minimum.  Over the 4th of July, we have a 3-night minimum.  During our early and late season (mid-May through mid-June and late August through the end of September,) we accept 1-night stays.  For wedding blocks, we always accept 1-night stays.

  • Can guests have outside visitors for the day?

    Yes, you may have visitors for the day. There is a daily visitors fee, which includes all of our amenities and activities. You may also have your friends join you for meals in the dining room for an additional fee with advance notice.

  • Can 3-year olds join in the activities for the 4-8 year olds?

    Yes, your 3-year old may join in the activities with a parent or baby-sitter buddy.

  • If we are staying on one meal plan, how do we let you know which meal we are going to have?

    Let the office know before you arrive what your plans are. If you choose to change meals once you are here, please let either the office or the dining room manager know the day before. If no choice is indicated, we assume dinner is your meal of choice.

  • Can I choose just breakfast?

    Yes, if you opt to stay on our One Meal Plan, you can choose breakfast as your one meal.  However, from Father’s Day for 10 weeks, we only offer our American Meal Plan (3 meals daily) and One Meal Plan (meal of choice).  Our Breakfast Plan packages are offered early and late summer only. 

  • Is tipping allowed?

    No, tipping is not allowed at Fair Hills. A service charge is added to your bill. This service charge is not a gratuity and is distributed to service personnel and other employees at the discretion of the management.

  • Can we bring our own boat?

    Yes, we have dock slips available per week or you may tie your boat to a buoy near our beach. We have a boat launch on our property, or you may use the public landing, just down the beach. We also have boat trailer parking available. Please note that Pelican Lake has aquatic invasive species Zebra Mussels. Proper cleaning, decontamination and other precautions are required after taking your boat out of our lake.

  • Are RV hook-ups available?

    No, we do not, nor do we have a great place to park them, please leave them at home!

  • What linens are provided?

    Bed linens and bathroom towels are provided, please bring your own beach towels.

  • Does Fair Hills have babysitters?

    Babysitters are available upon request at the front desk.

  • Are pets welcome?

    No, we are a pet-free facility.  Service animals are welcome.

  • When is Fair Hills open?

    We are open from May through September; family season vacation sports weeks run from mid June through August.

  • Are the cabins smoke free?

    Yes, all of our cabins are smoke free.

  • Which airlines fly into Fargo?

    Many guests fly into both the Minneapolis-St. Paul and Fargo airports. Allegiant Air, American Eagle, United Express and Delta Airlines fly into Hector International Airport in Fargo, ND.

  • How do I get from the Fargo airport to Fair Hills?

    Please contact the office for a list of recommended car services.

  • Is there a grocery store nearby?

    Yes, in Cormorant Village, approx. 6 miles away, there is a small grocery store and in Detroit Lakes, approx. 12 miles away, there are several grocery stores and a Wal-Mart.
