Fair Hills Resort takes Hootenanny on the Road!

Located south of Detroit Lakes, Minn., Fair Hills Resort offers a getaway as unique as the name of its Hootenanny musical. For 83 years Fair Hills has offered a vacation that is truly one-of-a-kind. Fair Hills has announced plans to take its Hootenanny on the road, with nine stops in the upper Midwest.

The musical, affectionately called “the Hoot,” starts its 45th year in the spring of 2010. This tenure makes the Hoot the longest running musical in the state of Minnesota. The Hoot is filled with songs and choreography of all different types and genres. Some songs have been in the Hoot since it first began, including, “The Monotone Lawnboy,” “The Rooster Song,” “Dadadadadadada,” and “Wide Mouth Frog.” Previously, only audiences at Fair Hills could watch the musical, but now everyone will be able to see the show.

“Our resort guests absolutely love the show,” said Beth Kaldahl Schupp, fourth-generation owner of Fair Hills Resort. “Many of our guests say the Hoot is one of their favorite parts of their stay.”

Employees, full-time staff and resort owners take part in Hoot performances. During the resort’s summer family season, employees rehearse for the weekly show almost every day.
“We look for musical talent in our employees, and we definitely ask a lot of our staff during this musical,” said Larry Swenson, Hootenanny producer. “Overall everyone has fun, and that reflects onto the crowd and our guests.”

The “Tour de Hoot” is scheduled to begin Monday, January 4, and will run to Monday, January 11. Show times start at 2:30 or 7 p.m., but people are welcome to arrive one hour before the show. Stops along the route include:

• Jan 5 – 7 p.m., Holiday Inn Convention Center, Omaha, Neb.
• Jan 6 – 7 p.m., Sheraton, West Des Moines, Iowa
• Jan 7 – 7 p.m., Crowne Plaza, Cedar Rapids, Iowa
• Jan 8 – 7 p.m., Holiday Inn, Carol Stream, Ill.
• Jan 9 – 2:30 p.m., Marriot Convention Center, Lincolnshire, Ill.
• Jan 10 – 2:30 p.m., Holiday Inn, Burnsville, Minn.
• Jan 10- 7 p.m., Hilton Garden Inn, Eden Prairie, Minn.
• Jan 11 – 7 p.m., Jimmy’s Conference & Catering, Vadnais Heights, Minn
