We are so proud of our city that we just had to share the fun news – as part of the Minnesota Sesquicentennial (that’s 150th birthday) the State has named 5 cities to be Capitals for a Day and Detroit Lakes is one of them.
Here’s what the Governor had to say:
“Minnesota is blessed with hundreds of unique and wonderful communities,” Governor Pawlenty said. “Added together, they make our state great. During our sesquicentennial year, we’ll
celebrate what brings us together and look forward to another 150 years of the enterprising and innovative spirit that makes Minnesota special.”
Detroit Lakes was elected in deciduous forest zone, the biome running diagonally northwest to southeast down the middle of the state and including some of the Twin Cities
Our day will be celebrated on May 14!
