A Royal Hootenanny at Fair Hills Resort – Best of 2019

Summer 2019 served us up some fabulous memories this year! We are counting down our absolute favorite moments and activities of the season in this 10-part blog series! Stay tuned for more additions each week! Coming in at #4…. A Royal Hootenanny at Fair Hills Resort.

The Hootenanny at Fair Hills Resort is a beloved tradition dating back to the 1960’s! Every Tuesday night, the staff perform a 1-hour-long musical variety show for our guests and members of the local community. It’s a fabulous night that begins with a mouthwatering smorgasbord meal in our Dining Room and a Big Pelican cruise around Pelican Lake on our 50-person pontoon boat. Each year, a theme will emerge in the Hoot. And this year, royalty appeared to be that constant theme.

It all began with the appearance of the grand old Fair Hills King (played by long-time guest and 8-14 rec director John Greenwood). In the skit, Alexander Hamilton (played by General Manager Caitlin Norby) was just trying to take a break from the harrowing American revolution and go on vacation.

Although the concept of a telephone number translated poorly, the we sang our traditional Phone Number Song for Hamilton. But The Fair Hills King interrupted right before the 1-800 number! He then belted out a tune about Fair Hills vacations to the tune of “You’ll be Back” from the Broadway hit, Hamilton.

The Fair Hills king would return later in the night, demanding EXCELLENT entertainment from the Fair Hills staff. One by one, members of the staff eagerly tried to fulfill the King’s wishes with varying degrees of success. To be frank, the Fair Hills King was not so easy to please, but that didn’t stop the staff from trying. There were mimes, magic acts, songs, and even acrobatics. But the King proved unimpressed, shouting “NEXT!!!” at each and every act. He, too, would be interrupted, this time by the Monotone Lawnboy.

The Royal Hootenanny at Fair Hills Resort this year also featured a stunning selection of “Dancing Queens” for the King to choose. They were young, sweet, only 17, and truly could feel the beat on the tambourine (oh yeah). And of course, lastly, the staff paid tribute to Queen by singing the classic ballad “Don’t Stop Me Now.”

All in all, it was a royally fun show this year! Thank you to everyone who stopped by to catch 2019’s Hootenanny at Fair Hills Resort. If you missed it this year, you can watch it HERE on youtube!
